Apple have issued a recall for some older MacBook models over fears that the battery may overheat and catch fire.
The recall notice was issued for a “limited number of 15-inch MacBook Pro units” sold between September 2015 and February 2017.
In an announcement, Apple said:
“Apple has determined that, in a limited number of older generation 15-inch MacBook Pro units, the battery may overheat and pose a fire safety risk.
“Affected units were sold primarily between September 2015 and February 2017 and product eligibility is determined by the product serial number.
“Customer safety is always Apple’s top priority, and we have voluntarily decided to replace affected batteries, free of charge.”
Any customers who think they may be affected have been advised to visit this site and put in their laptop’s serial number.
If your laptop is one of the ones affected, it needs to be sent to an Apple Repair Center for service. Service may take one to two weeks.
Customers have been advised to back up their data before sending their computer off.
The news comes a few weeks after the tech giant announced they were phasing out the iTunes music library.
It will be replaced with three different apps – Apple Music, Apple Podcasts and Apple TV.
But don’t worry: while the 18-year-old app will be gone, you’ll still have access to all of your songs – no matter how you may have downloaded them.
Apple has promised that this new system will have “all the features you’d expect from iTunes, all while being blazingly fast.”
