Would You Wear It? UK Retailer Launches ‘Minimum Wage Dress’

We can well remember the pain of scraping by on a nonsense sum during our teenage years. Saturdays spent stocking shelves, sweeping floors or washing dishes just so we’d have some cash for the next big Disco in the local hall.

So, we can understand the logic behind this move from online retailer SheLikes.com. The UK brand has unveiled a new dress aimed at teenagers on a budget, dubbed the ‘Minimum Wage Dress’.

At £3.68, (€4.30), the dress costs one hour’s pay at the minimum rate for under-18’s in the UK. Director of the company, Nick Puri, claims the dress will make life easier for teens who dread being snapped repeatedly in the same clothes, saying; “The increase in social media photo tagging has definitely added to this pressure.

He added; “They fear showing up on their friends’ feeds in the same outfit that they’ve already been seen in, so prefer to buy cheaper styles that they don’t mind wearing as little as two to three times.’”

The dress, which is made in the UK also, goes on sale today in three colours, neon green, pink and black.
