She’s famed for her natural approach to beauty, advocates a super healthy diet and has even released her own range of organic skincare so you would think model Miranda Kerr would be the first person to speak out about toxic clothing companies and the danger they are posing to our health. But, it seems that even Miranda is content to leave her principles at the door when a fat pay cheque is involved.
Greenpeace have named their “Detox Villains” of 2012 and low and behold American underwear giant and Miranda’s employer Victoria’s Secret has made the cut. These “Detox Villains” were released last week off the back of the Greenpeace report Toxic Threads: The Big Fashion Stitch-Up in which 141 clothing items from 40 brands were tested for toxic dyes and fabrics – toxic as in cancer causing – and Victoria’s Secret has been singled out for their zero commitment to changing their business practices.
Miranda isn’t as green as she makes out
When asked by Fashionista.com about how the brand is in direct conflict with her eco-friendly lifestyle, Miranda was evasive and simply replied “I’m actually not going to comment on that.”
Being bestowed with a pair of Victoria’s Secret angel wings is the holy-grail for most models – not only does it pay well, it can launch a career – so we’re not surprised that Miranda is keeping quiet about her future involvement in the brand. But it does make us wonder if she’s as wholesome as she makes out – surely it’s the same as a PETA spokesperson wearing fur for work…
