The Evolution Of Style – History Of The Leather Jacket

Where it all began.

“Following this week’s worldwide launch of HTC’s most beautifully designed phone yet, the HTC One (m8), we continue our evolution of  style series looking at the history of the leather jacket.”

In the early 1900s, brown aviator leather jackets were worn by pilots and those in the military forces.

They were part of the uniform for the Commissars during the Russian Civil War and later for members of the Cheka.

In the years after, the leather jacket became an iconic style item through its use in Hollywood films, for example, James Dean in A Rebel Without A Cause and Honor Blackman in The Avengers.

The jacket gained further popularity due to films such as Grease where Danny Zuko and the T Birds lived in their leather jackets, so too did Fonz in TV series Happy Days.

Leather jackets are a style staple on the music scene too with bands such as the Ramones and the Stereophonics known for their love of leather.

As well as featuring heavily in the music world, the leather jacket is also a major player in the fashion world.

Kate Moss and Cara Delevigne are two models who regularly wear leather jackets, and unlike some of their looks this is one we can definitely channel.
