Swimwear to Suit Your Shape This Summer

Not sure what style of swimsuit to go for? Make sure you make a splash this summer by picking swimwear that flatters your shape.

The thought of putting on swimwear can be very daunting, especially when you are heading to a beach filled with uber toned Spanish women with bronzed skin and glossy hair. We have all been there and the key is to pick a swimsuit or bikini that flatters your individual style and body shape. Have you ever heard of the phrase, “if you’ve got it flaunt it?” Well you definitely have it, so it’s just about finding the style that flaunts it in the best way possible.

Big Chest – If you are blessed in the boobs department, you can get away with a variety of styles. Swimsuits can help to contain, support or showcase your chest depending on the cut. Bikinis are similarly good for large boobs. The key is to make sure your swimsuit or bikini has plenty of support and is properly-fitted which means cup sizes as opposed to dress sizes. Halternecks are also very flattering.

Small Chest – A small chest can get away with going for a bandeau bikini or swimsuit. You can also take advantage of string tops. Top tip: tie them in double knots and steer clear of curious children! If you want to create curves, opt for a halterneck or a padded bikini to give you a bit of a lift and make the most of what you have. Ruffles and patterns are also a great way to add some shape and colour.

Big Bum – Swimskirts, swim shorts and high-waisted bikini bottoms flatter a larger bum. String bikinis ought to be avoided at all costs. Fifties style swimwear, as seen on Miss Marilyn Monroe, are also suitable as they are modest and flatter a more feminine figure.

Small Bum – Lacking a little junk in the trunk? If the answer is yes, feel free to strut your stuff in string bikini bottoms. To create curves, try a swimskirt. Short swim shorts are also flattering for small bums. Who loves short shorts?

Flat Tummy – Bikinis and tankinis were made for flat tummies and more athletic figures. If you are in this category, you can get away with showing off as much of your tummy as you want. All we know is that Shakira has got some serious competition this summer!

Curvy – If you are generally curvy all over, bikinis are great for showing off. Halterneck tops with swim shorts or high-waisted bottoms will give you support and highlight your best bits. Just remember plain colours are better than prints.

Athletic – It is all about creating curves if you are athletic or petite. That means halterneck and push-up styles as well as patterns, ruffles and skirts. A halterneck not only adds shapes to the bust but it helps to distract from broad shoulders.

Tall – One-pieces are more suited to taller shapes. Think feminine and fun swimsuits or swimdresses that will break up your shape nicely.

Short – Bikinis will help to create the illusion of length by breaking your body up into more parts. Opt for patterns and bright colours to distract from your height, or should we say lack of it.
