Random trivia is our new thing.
From why we jerk in our sleep to why freckles exist to why jeans are called jeans.
The reasoning behind the name for jeans is actually pretty cool.
So, jeans first originated in the cities of Genoa, Nimes and Italy and so, genes, the French word for Genoa is pretty much where jeans began.
There’s another theory too.
According to Hello Giggles, in France, the world serge is used to describe the material that jeans are made from and so people began to refer to jeans as “serge de Nimes”.
Serge de Nimes was a little bit long for everyday use and so, people began to refer the material as denim.
The story goes that sailors from Genoa were so obsessed with denim that they bought LOTS of it and so they began associated with it.
So, there you have it, that’s how we came to refer to jeans as jeans.
