Save, Steal Or Splurge – A Printed Pencil Skirt

Cathy Donohue

Although it’s easy to make a habit of shopping based on ‘what’s in’, this isn’t always a good idea.

Buying according to trends can incur debts pretty quickly and just because a piece is fashion forward doesn’t mean it will suit all body shapes.

Investment pieces in contrast, actually stand the test of time.

Each week we aim to introduce a new piece for your wardrobe and provide three options from where to buy, catering for all budgets.

€27, at River Island

Polka dot print is retro, fun and doesn’t need much accessorising. Team this cute midi skirt with a white vest, simple t-shirt or a short-sleeved blouse for ladylike chic. It’s a print that never strays too far from the fashion front line so you know your €27 is well spent. Team with patent loafers and a slogan tee for day and stilettos will make this look work at night.

€46 (£38) at Topshop

Tropical print is making waves this season and features heavily in many of the high-street spring summer collections. This pencil skirt from Topshop might not be for everyone but it’s pretty cool all the same. The kitsch print evokes holiday memories and it’s a fun piece that will add something different to your wardrobe this year. We are sold on this one!

Alexander McQueen, €250 at Harvey Nichols

Sarah Burton is creative designer at Alexander McQueen and also takes credit for designing the Duchess of Cambridge’s wedding dress. As a designer piece this is on the pricey side but the up side is it will definitely stand out from the crowd. Make sure to keep the rest of your outfit simple and let the skirt do the talking. Wear with opaque tights and shoe boots during the day and change it up with bare legs and strappy sandals for night.
