Real Women Are Fashionable: Styling For Your Body Shape

Our picks for this week.

Cathy Donohue

Although shopping is high on our list of fun activities, it can prove a headache when you’re not happy with anything you see.

Over the last couple of weeks we have focused on styling for individual body shapes including pear, apple, petite, curvy, top-heavy and tubular.

We have discussed dresses that suit different shapes, tops that complement each type of figure and finding jeans that suit you.

This week’s style edit is a little different, we will take five different items from Littlewoods Ireland and discuss how each one works on a particular figure.

Pear

Pear shapes are often conscious of thighs and bums. We recommend a skater style dress that cinches in at the waist and flares out from the smallest part of the body. Lace is elegant and ladylike, plus the three-quarter sleeves on this South Lace dress (€37) are perfect for this time of year. The blue colour is pretty for spring and it’s a dress that can be worn to work or glammed up at night.

Curvy

A printed blouse is an easy way to achieve stylish chic quickly. This graffiti print blouse from So Fabulous is fashion forward and monochrome is always a winner. It’s reduced from €37 which is even more of an incentive to purchase. Pair this with black skinny jeans or a fitted pencil skirt for a streamlined silhouette.

Apple

If apple shapes put on weight, it tends to go to the tummy area. High-waisted jeans disguise any unwanted lumps or bumps and skinny jeans flatter the slim legs apples are known for. Dark denim is the most flattering shade and it goes with pretty much everything. We’re crushing on this Love Label pair, (€25, reduced from €37).

Petite

Petite shapes are fortunate as most looks work for them. A leather jacket is a style essential, regardless of the season. A good leather jacket will take you from season to season. Pair it with a floral dress for summer or neutral cigarette pants in winter, or jeans, or a skirt. Yes, this item can be matched with pretty much everything and modernises your style with very little effort, (€154, down to €129).

Hero Piece

A trench coat is a staple piece for any Spring Summer wardrobe. A jacket that can be worn all year round is a necessity in Ireland and this Definitions trench , (€82) adds a stylish touch to your everyday look. The belt defines the waist which is a benefit for any shape, plus the khaki colour is a little bit different. This item is sure to be the talking point of your ensemble, and best of all, it works for every figure.
