No matter how many clothes you have, if you’re wardrobe isn’t functional, then getting dressed will prove frustrating as things are pulled out, piled on the bed and left strewn around the room (sureIy I can’t be the only one who under pressure turns into a fashion tornado). Go through your wardrobe and look at the pieces on high rotation then work a few failsafe outfits around these pieces. This is the best time of year to have a good clear out.
Spending wisely isn’t about never loosening those purse strings, but is more about looking at where your money goes. Instead of buying throwaway fashion consider saving up and buying a more expensive investment buys instead. In the long run you’ll get better cost-per-wear value from these style staples than those cheap-as-chips items. Plus if you were to work out the impact of those supposed steals on your wallet it probably wouldn’t be pretty.
Don’t let clothes sit at the back of your wardrobe. If you don’t want them anymore have a swap party with friends so that you can benefit from your generousity and pick up some new-ish threads to boot. Or get creative with some DIY fashion solutions – bright buttons, shortening a hem, removing the sleeves are all ways to breath new life into old pieces.

Granted we all strive to have a signature style and classics have their place but it’s all to easy to slip into a style rut. Guilty of always wearing jeans? Or do you regularly wear a uniform of floral frocks? Then you sista are in need of a style shake up. Go shopping with a friend whose fashion sense you admire and let them pick five items for you to try on. They might not all be to your taste but then again you could hit fashion gold. Having fun and trying new trends is what fashion is all about.
It’s good to step outside of your fashion comfort zone and try a new trend. Once you’ve recieved a few compliments you’ll be flying. And sure if you realise it’s simply not you then what’s the worst that can happen? A bad picture on facebook or you’ll you look back and laugh. (Note I wore leg warmers with mini-skirts in my very early twenties and thought they were the business... I stand corrected!)
Beat the January blues by kicking off the New Year off on a bright note by incorporating more colour into your everyday look. If you always go back to black then pick darker hues like burgundy, khaki and navy so it still feels familiar. Or if you can’t wean yourself off black altogether colourful accessories are key to giving basic black outfits some fashion oomph. Hit the high street for bright beauts that don’t demand a big financial committement.
This is an oldie but a goodie and one that is worth making every year. We can all feel down in the dumps during misery month and if you’re carrying a few extra Christmas pounds this can come out in your clothing choices of comfy layers. As much as fashion is about fun it is also about flattering what God gave ya so knowing your body shape is the ticket to being a well-dressed diva. Find out what flaws you wish to conceal and the assets you’d like to flaunt. And trust us no-one else notices your bad bits if you don’t go pointing them out!
