Must Haves: Fashion Essentials For the Autumn/Winter Season

Yes its that time of year again but instead of whinging about the weather why not concentrate on updating your wardrobe...

Believe it or not, it’s possible to shop on a budget.

High street shops are in constant rivalry with each other resulting in competitive prices and happy bargain hunters.

Invest in staple pieces that will carry you through the season and try to avoid buying based on trends, instead sticking to classic pieces that will go the distance.

“You need a good coat for the winter now”. If there was a euro for every time we heard this from an Irish Mammy, sure wouldn’t we all be rich. Funny thing is they’re right, as with most things they say. A typical winter in our lovely country brings plenty of rain so a warm and durable coat is essential protection from the elements. Check out this hooded parka, €119 by Henry Holland at Debenhams. It’s stylish but practical too. Another personal favourite is this blue beauty from River Island €108 and this New Look coat €65 ticks two trends, leather and punk.

Sturdy, hardwearing and comfortable boots that will withstand Irish weather. Don’t go and buy the first pair you see just because you need them, make sure they fit well as you will pretty much live in them for the season ahead. Black ankle boots are a purchase that should feature in every wardrobe. They go with everythingand are also the perfect way to toughen up a floral dress in summer, try this River Island pair, £65 (€76). If you’re a slave to the knee-high style, then the below boots are a steal at €49.99 from New Look.

A hero knit is likely to become the most worn piece in your wardrobe this season. A knitted sweater can be thrown over a dress or jeans and a knitted dress looks equally good with tights as it does over printed leggings. Patterned or plain, this will be the item you grab on your way out the door to work or when looking for something cosy to wear on a relaxing Sunday evening. This grey knit from Penneys is a steal at €18, or Monsoon has this cosy pastel knit for £55 (€63).
