Fans of John Lewis were thrilled earlier this week when an online blunder saw laptops and tablets, some to the value of £500, went on sale for £40.
The error saw hundreds of hoppers flock to the website to bag a bargain, but on realizing their mistake, John Lewis did not honour the purchases.
The company instead offered the customers £25 as a ‘goodwill gesture’.
“This was a genuine mistake and we have written to all customers affected and provided a full refund along with a £25 gesture of goodwill for the inconvenience caused,” a spokesperson for John Lewis said.
Meanwhile, a disappointed 72-year-old shopper told The Mirror, “Amazon made a similar mistake and honoured the sale. I would have expected a company with the reputation of John Lewis to do the same.”
