Amid all the hype and controversy (over 200,000 protestors took to Facebook to complain about Minnie’s skinny makeover), last night saw the big reveal of Barney’s holiday window.
Sarah Jessica Parker who stars in the film donned a pair of uber-glam Minnie ears to host the event and the unveiling drew such a crowd, Madison Avenue where the store is located had to be blocked off.
The cartoon depicts Minnie having a fashion fantasy about a Lanvin dress she see’s in the window of Barney’s where she is transported to Paris, gets papped by several fashion photographers before taking to the runway in the dress. Key fashion players and Disney characters are depicted throughout the short film and despite all the controversy, it’s adorable and enchanting and everything a Disney film should be.
Who cares if Minnie morphs into a skinny runway model for a couple of minutes – it’s her fantasy! Speaking to Fashionista.com, Barney’s Creative Ambassador-At-Large Simon Doonan said he hadn’t even heard of the backlash “I don’t know about that,” he said. “I think it’s a celebration of the real Minnie because at the end she’s her real fabulous self.”
