Fashion From the FROW – Laura Whitmore’s LFW

"Everyone takes extra effort in his or her appearance and there's an abundance of creative and open-minded people in the city." Laura Whitmore on London Fashion Week.

So this week is all about FASHION!

To be honest, I don’t even pretend to know the intricacies of fashion… but I DO know what I like.

It’s a very bizarre industry, and films like ‘The Devil Wears Prada’ are closer to the bone than you’d think. Like most people I meet in this business, the higher you go up, the nicer people are. I’ve met such inspirational, hard working and passionate designers. But then, I’ve also met their PRs who, to put in mildly, can be downright RUDE. But this renowned ‘snobbery’ shouldn’t deflect from what Fashion Week is all about. It’s not about what size you are, or how expensive your clothes are. It’s about expressing yourself through the art of fashion, seeing what we can expect in our shops next season and most importantly having FUN with clothes!

London is a fascinating place to be in this week. Everyone takes extra effort in his or her appearance and there’s an abundance of creative and open-minded people in the city.

The whole experience of attending Fashion Week has always captivated me since I was a child. And now to live it first hand has quenched my curiosity, whilst fuelling my interest even more.

This week, I’ve decided to share on this site my favourite outfits I’ve worn during LFW, some of the shows I’ve seen… And what the hell the ‘FROW’ is all about!

Laura’s favourite looks from London Fashion Week, (left to right) 1) Dress by Baukjen 2) Dress by Shakuhachi, bag by Kate Spade, platforms by Own The Runway 3) Dress by Felder Felder, shoes by United Nude 4) Dress by Rebecca Taylor, bag by Warehouse, shoes by Jeffrey Campbell for Topshop

Bora Aksu was probably my favourite catwalk show to attend, as the headpieces and the vibrant blue shades used throughout were breathtakingly beautiful. Of course I’m not going to be wearing these dresses to my local Tesco anytime soon, but it’s good to see that my favourite colour will be in season and Peter Pan collars are still ‘in’. (Victoria Beckham’s collection at NY Fashion Week backed up this too!).

I also like to take inspiration from the catwalk for the award ceremonies and red carpet events I’ll be attending next year. House of Holland displayed vibrant, bold prints and is always one of the edgier collections. This was highlighted by its ‘FROW-ers’, i.e. the recognisable faces on the front row.

As a FROW-er you do get to experience the show from a top location and sit beside some pretty cool people. But you do get blinded by cameras too, and you partake in some serious ‘squishing’!

One bench – about fifty fashion bums trying to fit (maybe this is why fashion people are so skinny?!).  My ass was squished between Kelly Brook and Laura Jackon. Most men would kill to be in my position, tightly pressed up against two absolutely stunning ladies. My ass cheeks just felt numb. But the buzz of LFW still remains long after the feeling in my buttocks returned.

And I can’t wait until next February to do it all over again.
