Crunchy Colour: Six Fashion And Beauty Buys You Need For Autumn 2013

Match your A/W wardrobe to your new favourite sweet treat

Cathy Donohue

We all need a little mid-week pick me up now and again, whether it’s a sweet treat or a new beauty buy. A metallic piece can update your wardrobe in an instant and we all know one lip balm just isn’t enough. Burnt orange and warm browns are the perfect colours to help update your winter wardrobe. With that in mind, here are a few ideas …go forth and treat yourself.

Metallic jumper, €40 at A|Wear

This piece ticks all the boxes for us. It’s ideal for wearing in that funny period between summer and winter, when it’s too cold for t-shirts but unbearably sticky for knits. The on trend metallic shade and reasonable price make it an attractive purchase. It also funks up black and looks equally good with colour, we really do love it.

Vaseline, €2.19 at pharmacies nationwide

Vaseline is brilliant value considering its many uses. Smoothing eyebrows, softening lips and moisturising dry patches it’s a must have. Vaseline is a necessity for the winter months to combat dry lips and for some reason we end up with a couple of these tins floating around. Coat pockets, desks, makeup bags and handbags… we can’t get enough.

Bag, €11 at Penney’s

Bags and shoes are always great buys, they stand the test of time plus they look good no matter what. So, even if you have overdosed on chocolate at the weekend you can still wear them guilt free. Penney’s accessories are getting better and better all the time, and at this price you can’t go wrong.

Trench coat, €110 at Warehouse

A trench coat is a sensible purchase for our Irish climate. It protects you from the rain but is lightweight enough to wear on sticky days too. This neutral shade can be matched with just about anything which makes it very easy to wear. It’s perfect for work too as the belt and buttons keep it smart.

Roger & Gallet shower gel, €9.90 at pharmacies natiowide

Getting up on winter mornings can be a struggle, considering it feels like the middle of the night when it’s pitch black outside. This shower gel is refreshing, the citrus smell will immediately wake you up and have you raring to go. Okay, you may still need that morning coffee but we’re not complete miracle workers!

Tan Boots, €160 at River Island

These might be a little on the expensive side but they are an investment buy and will last you season after season. Boots such as these are timeless, the shape doesn’t date which makes it easier to pay a little extra. The tan colour goes with everything and as we all know heels are the best way to give you a boost on days when you’re not feeling your best.
