Ladies, how many times have you dreamed about owning a pair of Louboutins? If you’re anything like us, then chances are the answer is a lot.

But with the €500 price tag, for most of us Christian Louboutin’s heels are way out of our wage bracket. Sigh.

However, there are a host of Irish women out there who are taking matters into their own hands and getting some designer-style shoes the easy way. Let’s just say, they’re making DIY a hell of a lot more stylish…

The Irish Sun reports that the hardware store HomeBase has reported a 40 per cent spike in sales of €1.59 paint tester pots as women try their hand at giving their high street heels a Louboutin-esque makeover.

Apparently, women are buying the paint pots in (you’ve guessed it) various shades of red so they can paint the soles of their shoes in the iconic colour of Louboutin.

“We have noticed a significant number of girls colour matching the tester pots to pictures of designer shoes and requesting tips on how to paint on leather or rubber,” said Vince Sebborn, the manager of HomeBase in Nutgrove, Dublin.

“Clearly paint is meant for decorating walls rather than shoes, so we’re amazed this new trend has hit our stores. Our tester pots would have enough paint to cover the sole of an average size shoe,” he added.

Louboutins: Aren’t they amazing?

So what are the most popular colours for DIY-savvy women?

“The most popular red shades are ‘flame’ and ‘shoe stopper.’ If you apply the paint properly it can achieve a really good visual effect,” said Mr Sebborn.

What do you think ladies? Would you ever give your shoes a DIY Louboutin makeover?
