Putting the love into 15-0

People have been left calling for a film to be made about a tennis duo who broke up days before winning gold at the Paris 2024 Olympics.

It’s an awkward moment breaking up with your partner only to go into work with them the next day, however for a pair of mixed double tennis players it might just have been the thing to save their relationship and where better than in Paris.

Kateřina Siniaková and Tomáš Macháč from the Czech Republic announced they had broken up in the run up to the start of the Paris Olympics with Siniaková revealing to Czech press that their four-year relationship was over.

She said: “Yes, it’s true, but this is my private matter. Of course, we will play, we are professionals after all.”

The Czech pair won the gold medal match in the tennis mixed doubles on 2 August, beating Chinese opponents Wang Xinyu and Zhang Zhizhen in a dramatic third set tie-breaker.

In the elation of victory the duo shared a hug and kiss during the medal ceremony igniting rumour that the tennis players could be getting back together.

Upon being questioned if the hug and kiss meant anything more than a simple celebration, Siniaková said, “That’s our personal life, so you don’t need to know that. We like when you are confused.

“This is top secret,” she added.

Fans have gone crazy for the former couple, taking to social media to express their need for a film to be made about their story.

One person wrote: “Someone needs to write this sports rom-com ASAP, two professional tennis players who break up after multiple years of dating, only to reunite weeks later to win gold at the Olympics. It’s cinematic gold.”

Another said: “Netflix or Hallmark needs to make a movie about their story!”

Meanwhile another person wrote: “Nothing fixes a relationship better than winning a gold medal together in the city of love.”

After the pair’s incredible win, Siniaková took to X to express her gratitude.

She wrote: “That was unreal. Thanks everyone for supporting us so happy with the result we have achieved.”

The tennis duo have won Czechia’s only gold medal of the Olympics making their victory huge on a personal and national scale.
