‘I’m not overreacting’: Bride’s anger as mother-in-law secretly buys long white dress for wedding

A woman has shared her anger after her mother-in-law went behind her back to choose a white dress for her wedding day.

The bride-to-be said that she took her partner's mum out to buy an outfit for the occasion but that the older woman later picked out a dress on her own. The mother-of-the-groom's chosen dress turned out to be a floor-length white gown with a pink and grey floral pattern. Taking to a Facebook group, the bride wrote; "We gave her around five colors to pick from in our theme and tried to make it fun for her because she’s been so unexcited about the whole wedding." The bride only learned the truth about her mother-in-law's dress when her partner's sister sent her a photo. "Is it as bad as I think it is?," she continued. "Please tell me it's as bad as I think it is and I'm not overreacting for it being too white." The bride confronted her mother-in-law, who told her that she didn't want to conform to the colour scheme as "light pink, blush, peach colors like that wash me out." The older woman then said she felt "hurt" she hadn't been allowed choose her own dress.

"I'm sorry that you all don't think I can pick out a presentable dress for your wedding," she told the bride.

"I feel like I'm an embarrassment to everyone and have to have my dress picked out like I'm a child. It hurts.

"If you all feel like I'll shame you or embarrass you with what I wear, I'll just sit in the back of the venue and be there for the wedding ceremony then just leave after."

Unsurprisingly many of the other Facebook group members backed up the bride, saying what her mother-in-law had done was disrespectful. We'd probably have the exact same reaction as the bride, TBH.
