Baby Zoe Ireland Drake was born in Dublin on Thursday of this week after her mother went into labour on board a flight from Paris to North Carolina.
The American Airlines flights was diverted to Dublin Airport after Jenny Drake, from Kentucky USA, went into labour at 25 weeks.
Speaking about the experience, Mrs. Drake said: “She’s doing really well.
“She is stable now thankfully. We’ve called her Zoe Ireland,” she added.
“I was terrified,” she continued. “My big fear was that if she was born on the plane she wouldn’t make it because she was so young and her lungs were not properly developed.”
After alerting the flight crew to the situation, an ambulance was waiting for Mrs. Drake in Dublin, which brought her to Dublin’s Rotunda hospital.
“I just kept thinking, ‘please let me make it to the hospital’ because every minute counts without oxygen,” she said, according to The Mirror.
“And we did – four minutes after I got to the hospital, Zoe was born.
“We are just so grateful to everyone who helped and are thankful she is doing well.”
Donations have been flooding in for the family who will be staying in Dublin over the next few weeks as baby Zoe gets stronger.
