A young boy has sadly passed away after a road accident in Mullingar.

According to reports, the young boy was struck by a car on Monday evening.

He was treated at the scene before being taken by ambulance to Mullingar Hospital, where he was pronounced deceased.

The Coroner has been notified, and a post-mortem examination will be arranged.

Shortly after 6:30 pm, Gardaí and emergency services responded to a collision in Farranshock Estate, Mullingar.

The scene is currently preserved for examination by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators.

A Garda investigation has been launched following the tragic accident.

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses following the fatal road traffic collision in Mullingar.

Road users or pedestrians who were in the area at the time and have camera footage (including dash-cam recordings) are asked to make this available to investigating Gardaí.

Another road accident occurred in Sligo on Easter Monday.

Two women, a nine-year-old and a three-year-old, were hospitaised following the two-car collision yesterday. They were taken to the hospital with serious injuries.

The driver of the other vehicle was taken to the hospital for assessment.
