When it comes to getting our hair done, the part we hate the most is the washing. Not because we hate having someone else do all the hard work, but because those little washing basin seats are just plain uncomfortable, don’t you agree?

The Irish Independent reports today that a 35 year old woman told a court that she developed an intense pain in her neck, after she was allegedly left sitting at a washing basin for almost 40minutes in a Peter Mark hairdressing salon.

Andrea Dunne took the hair salon to court and claimed €38,000 in damages. The case was “resolved” on undisclosed terms yesterday, despite the fact that the salon in question had entered a full defence to Ms Dunne’s claims.

According to Ms Dunne, she felt pain in her neck for the rest of the day after she attended the hair salon in 2008. She said that when she had arrived, the salon was “extremely busy” and that she was seated at the washing basin (with her head tilted backwards) for 40minutes.

Ms Dunne told the court that she was having a hot towel treatment at the time and that the weight of the towel and her wet hair combined was “really heavy.”

After the salon visit, Ms Dunne had to attend her GP as the pain was progressing from her neck to her left shoulder and she was prescribed anti-inflammatory painkillers. She also had to have intramuscular injections.

The counsel for Pete Mark said that Ms Dunne had not been seated at the washing basin for 40minutes and that instead, the real timeframe was only around 20minutes. The court was also told that Ms Dunne had not complained to staff on the day.

The question we pose to you, ladies, is the following: salon washing basins – should they be made comfier?
