The dog involved in the attack was a family pet
A woman has been rushed to hospital after being seriously injured in a dog attack at a residential property in Co. Carlow.
The incident reportedly took place in Ashfield, Blackbog Road, shortly after 2 pm on Tuesday, December 30th.
It is believed that the dog, which was euthanised at the scene, was on the restricted breed list. According to reports, the woman was attacked by an XL Bully type dog.
The dog was reportedly a family pet from the household where the attack took place.
Gardaí and emergency services arrived at the scene and confirmed the woman suffered 'serious' injuries.
She was airlifted to the Mater Hospital in Dublin, where she is currently being treated for serious injuries.
Locals are said to be in shock after learning about the harrowing attack.
In 2024, a ban on XL Bully dogs was introduced in Ireland. It is currently illegal to breed, sell, import or rehome these dogs. A full ban on ownership is set to be introduced in February 2025.
However, owners can be exempt from the ban if they get a Certificate of Exemption. Their dog should also be neutered, licensed, and microchipped.
