The 1916 commemorations are well underway, with a sombre ceremony remembering the dead being held at the Garden of Remembrance this morning.
The ceremony was attended of course, by our President Michael D. Higgins, who certainly has a way with words in this interview for RTÉ.
He spoke movingly about how necessary it is to remember all the aspects of the Rising, even the more painful parts of our national history.
Higgins also explained the crucial role women played in the Rising, and the historical exclusion of women from Irish history.
He is such an eloquent man, and you can watch the interview below.
