Warrants for the arrests of Socialist Party TD Clare Daly and Independent TD Mick Wallace have reportedly been issued to their local Garda stations this week.
According to The Sunday Independent, the pair refused to pay fines for breaching security at Shannon Airport in 2014.
They were arrested at the airport after they had attempted to carry out an inspection of a US military plane, which was parked next to the airport’s main runway.
The report states that they were fined €2,000 and had been given a deadline of July 22nd to pay the fine – but they refused to pay.
According to the report, the terms of the warrants mean that if they refuse to pay this time round, they will serve a 30-day prison sentence, which could see them in jail for Christmas.
Speaking to the publication, Mick Wallace stated “under no circumstances will we pay the fines”.
“We realise this may mean serving time in prison. It’s not something we’d look forward to, but if it happens, so be it,” he concluded.
