If you’re married, you might want to change the route of your daily commute to work. Why? Well, according to new research, it could make your marriage happier.

The Irish Daily Mail reports that a new study has found married couples are more satisfied with their relationship if they commute to work in the same direction – yeah, we don’t really get it either, but bear with us while we try to explain.

According to experts, physically travelling in the same direction on a daily basis makes couples feel like they also share other goals in life. So basically, if you share a crowded DART or bus with your beloved every morning on your way to work, it’ll make you feel closer as a couple.

The results of the study suggest that newlyweds should also try and pick a home that requires both of them to commute in one direction. Now call us crazy, but surely we should consider other, more important, factors when trying to pick a house?

“Physically moving in a particular goal-relevant direction might become associated with more general goal-related concepts,” said Irene Huang, the lead researcher of the study.

According to the researchers at the University of Hong Kong, who carried out the study, physical actions are metaphorically linked to wider beliefs, so separating from your other half in order to head off to work in the morning could be interpreted as “going your separate ways.”

What do you think ladies? Is there any truth in this? While the research is there, we have to admit we remain fairly sceptical…
