There’s nothing stronger than a mother’s love – and this video shows animal instincts really do kick in.
When a fire broke out at a barn in Alvarado, Texas earlier this month, a pony named Bella risked her own life to save her two week old foal Butterscotch.
Bella backed her foal into a corner of the barn and protected her from the flames and falling debris of the fire. Butterscotch escaped the incident with only minor burns, but mother Bella suffered injuries and burns to almost half her body.
Although authorities thought Bella wouldn’t make it through her injuries, both pony and foal are now in the care of the Humane Society of North Texas, and should be healthy enough for adoption in the coming months.
A spokesperson at the centre says it was Bella’s ‘love alone for Butterscotch’ that made her pull through recovery.
