The thought of tens of thousands of Americans signing a petition to have Piers Morgan deported from their country is, at first glance, hilarious.
The outspoken talk show host barely lets a day go by without some war breaking out between himself and another well known personality on Twitter, and more often than not it’s Morgan who started it.
So, when we spied a petition that as of yesterday had more than the 25,000 signatures needed to get an official response from The White House, we assumed it was a joke started by a rival celeb. However, that’s not the case.
In fact, the 60,000+ people who had signed the petition as of this afternoon are calling for Morgan to be deported over his views on gun control.
Brit Morgan has spoken out repeatedly about the need for tighter gun laws in the U.S. following the horrific shootings in a school in Newtown, Connecticut last week, and gun rights activists are fighting back.
The petition, created on the White House e-petition website by a user in Texas on December 21st accuses the talk show host of a “hostile attack against the U.S. Constitution”.
To date, Morgan has laughed off the petition, asking his followers on Twitter; “If I do get deported from America for wanting fewer gun murders, are there any other countries that will have me?”
The petition didn’t dampen Morgan’s festive cheer on Twitter today either…
Meanwhile ‘Top Gear’ presenter Jeremy Clarkson has weighed in also, saying: “Americans. It took us 40 years to get rid of Piers Morgan. Pleease don’t send him back.”
