Mum-of-two, Karen Cummings was found with a serious head injury
Tributes have been pouring in following the murder of mum-of-two Karen Cummings in Co. Down.
The PSNI confirmed the mother was found unconscious at a house in the Laurel Heights area of Banbridge on Saturday, December 14th.
It is understood that Ms. Cummings suffered a serious head injury.
She was treated at the scene, but sadly passed away a short time later, the PSNI has confirmed.
A murder investigation has been launched following the mother’s untimely passing.
The PSNI stated: “Detectives from the Police Service of Northern Ireland’s Major Investigation Team have launched a murder inquiry following the death of a woman in Banbridge.
“A post-mortem examination will take place in due course. Two men have been arrested in connection with the investigation,” they added.
Police confirmed a 42-year-old man was arrested at the scene on Saturday evening. He was arrested on suspicion of murder and remains in police custody as enquiries continue.
A second man, aged in his 30s, was also arrested on suspicion of murder.
Tributes paid to beloved mum Karen Cummings
Tributes have been pouring in for the late mum with many remembering the nurse as a “devoted mother”.
Michelle O’Neill stated: “My thoughts are with the family and friends of Karen Cummings this evening. A horrendous loss of life and another family left in grief. Together we must unite and say enough is enough.”
She added: “Violence against women and girls must end now.”
District Commander for Armagh, Banbridge and Craigavon, Superintendent Brendan Green stated:
“Our thoughts are with Ms Cummings’ family and friends as they struggle to come to terms with what has happened, and they have our full sympathy at this time.”
Another wrote: “RIP to this beautiful soul. My heart is so sore right now. Karen Cummings was one of the best girls I’ve ever met… thinking of her family and her friends right now.”
