Over the weekend it was reported that there was wintry weather on the way and it has well and truly arrived.

Met Éireann has issued three weather warnings and warned that extra care needs to be taken due to the wet and windy conditions.

There is a status orange wind warning for Clare, Cork, Donegal, Galway, Kerry, Leitrim, Limerick, Mayo and Sligo.

This warning, which is in effect until tomorrow morning (10.00am on Tuesday), means winds of up to 65-80 km/h and possible gusts over 110 km/h.

There is also a status yellow wind warning for Cavan, Monaghan, Roscommon, Tipperary and Waterford which indicates winds between 50 and 65 km/h with gusts reaching to around 100 km/h.

The forecaster has also issued a status yellow snow-ice warning for Cavan, Connacht, Donegal and Monaghan for this morning.

In general, today will be cold, windy and wet. Heavy showers are expected across the country, some of which will be wintry. Hail and thunder are expected in parts.

Highest temperatures will be around 5 to 7 degrees Celsius but these will drop this evening to between 0 and 3 degrees.
