There’s Been A 38% Drop In The Number Of People Sleeping Rough In Dublin

There has reportedly been a 38% drop in the number of people who have been sleeping rough on the streets of Dublin. According to the latest count from the Dublin Region Homeless Executive, 105 people were sleeping rough in the Dublin area on April 14^th. This is in comparison to 168 people in November of 2014 and represents the biggest decrease since the count started in 2007. “It’s positive that this is the single largest reduction in people sleeping rough since the official count began in 2007,” said Pat Doyle, CEO of the Fr. Peter McVerry Trust. “However, having 105 people sleeping on the streets is still not acceptable and much work remains to be done to reduce that number further.” Seventeen of those sleeping on the street on April 14^th were between the ages of 18 and 23, while the largest group was aged between 31 and 40 years of age and four people were over the age of 60.
