Alan Haughey died on Saturday afternoon when he was the passenger in a single-vehicle collision. The 28 year old had only emigrated to Australia permanently on October 27th of this year.
Alan worked as a mechanic for Murray Engineering, based in Kalgoorlie, a Western Australian town located 370 miles east of Perth. A local newspaper reported that the driver of the vehicle, a 24-year-old Kalgoorlie local, failed to navigate a turn at a crossroads. The car veered off road and turned.
Alan died on the scene. A front seat passenger, another local man, suffered minor injuries while the driver is in critical condition.
Heartbroken girlfriend, Elaine Ni Meachair, took to Facebook and posted a picture of herself and Alan, captioning it “The love of my life”.
The Kevin Bell Repatriation Trust is helping the Haughey family bring the young man’s body home.
