According to reports, the young girl fell ill during a Louth School Girls Leagueon football game on Thursday, July 11th.
The young girl was rushed to hospital but was sadly pronounced dead.
Gardaí have been informed of the harrowing incident.
They confirmed to The Irish Examiner that the girl was in her teens.
A spokesperson stated: "Gardaí were notified of an incident where a female (aged in her teens) took ill in Termonfeckin, Co. Louth, on Thursday 11th July 2024.
"She was taken to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, Drogheda, Co. Louth, where she subsequently passed away," the spokesperson added.
All Louth School Girls League matches have been cancelled as a mark of respect.
The North Eastern Football League has also cancelled all upcoming games this week following the girl's untimely death.
The local community has been paying tribute to the young girl with waves of tributes pouring in since Thursday night.
