Danish police have shot dead the man they believe to be behind yesterday’s attacks in Copenhagen.

Yesterday, one person was killed in the Charlie Hebdo-style attack on an arts café that was hosting a seminar on free speech.

Controversial Swedish artist Lars Vilks, who has been threatened with death many times over his cartoons depicting the Prophet Mohammad, was in attendance and the attack was deemed an act of terrorism by Danish Prime Minister Helle Thorning-Schmidt.

In the early hours of this morning another man died in an attack at the Krystalgade synagogue nearby.

The suspect was tracked down in the Norrebro area of the city with help from CCTV and a local taxi driver.

Police surrounded the residence where he was located and the suspect was shot dead when he emerged opening fire at officers.

According to Sky News, investigators have said there was no evidence to suggest another gunman was involved in the shootings that left two people dead and five police officers wounded.

Yesterday’s attacks were the first of their kind since the Charlie Hebdo attacks in France last month, during which 17 people lost their lives over three days of violence.
