Well-known rap mogul Suge Knight was allegedly involved in a hit-and-run accident on Thursday night that left one man dead.
According to reports, the lawyer for the Death Row Records founder claims he was “trying to escape” following an argument on set in Compton.
A 55-year-old man died following the incident and a 51-year-old man was also injured.
Knight’s lawyer has claimed that his client was trying to escape from attackers and so will be “exonerated”.
He claims that Knight was “in the process of being physically assaulted by two men and in an effort to escape he unfortunately hit two (other) individuals”.
“He was in his car, trying to escape,” he continued, “We are confident that once the investigation is completed, he will be totally exonerated.”
“As they were arguing, the driver of the red pickup truck ends up running over a couple of people in the parking lot over here and then taking off,” said Lt John Corina of LA County Sheriff’s office.
“We know, as everyone’s been reporting, that it was Suge Knight that was involved in this… So far, we have not confirmed it was him driving the truck.
“It looks like he drove backwards and struck the victims and drove forwards and struck them again,” he continued.
“The people we’ve talked to say it looked like it was an intentional act.”
Knight, who was reportedly shot six times in a nightclub last summer, launched Death Row Records with Dr Dre back in the 1990s and the label has helped to launch stars such as Tupac and Snoop Dogg.
It has been reported that as a result of prior convictions, Knight could face up to 30 years in prison.
