The new Luas Cross City line may disrupt bus commuters’ journeys in the New Year, as Dublin City Council chief executive Owen Keegan has said traffic restrictions may also have to extend to buses as well as private vehicles.
The Irish Times report that it will significantly lengthen journey times for passengers.
Keegan told The Irish Times: “College Green is going to be very, very busy and if you’re going to have high frequency Luas lines, if you’re going to have cyclists and pedestrians, it’s going to be very difficult to also have buses.”
The new Cross-City Luas will be running from 2017, and a decision on the banning of buses will be made early in the New Year.
There will be an additional 10 million passenger journeys per year on this newly extended Luas network and according to the project’s website, it will only take 21 minutes to get from Stephen’s Green to Cabra.
