Snow predicted as triple weather warning issued by Met Eireann

It looks like we could get a white Christmas after all as Met Eireann is predicting that snow is on the way. The national forecaster has issued three alerts this morning, with a Status Orange and a Status Yellow low temperature and ice warning set to end at midday. The warnings are to be replaced by a new Status Yellow ice warning which comes with a warning of icy conditions across the country with wintry showers bringing "sleet and possibly snow" later on in the day. This is set to be in place for the entire country for 24 hours, from midday on Friday to midday on Saturday. Friday is set to see widespread frost and ice and a few patches of freezing fog throughout the morning which will leave the roads in a difficult condition, with temperatures of 0 to 4 degrees. Showers are also forecast in the later afternoon and evening which could turn wintery in some place, with low temperatures of 0 to -3 degrees and icy conditions in places as well as some mist and fog, especially in the midlands. Ireland will then see a "big thaw" over the weekend as temperatures are set to reach 12 degrees on Sunday but won't last long as there is set to be another cold blast ahead of Christmas. Weather expert Alan O'Reilly from Carlow Weather said that while it is still "very uncertain", we could see cooler air could return again by Wednesday. He wrote on Twitter: "After the big freeze comes the big thaw. Up to 12c by Sunday in the South and most areas will see over 10c Monday. Cooler air could return by Wednesday but very uncertain yet."
