Met Éireann have issued a snow-ice warning for 18 counties, as temperatures are set to drop as low as -5C this week.
The status yellow weather warning was put into place for Leinster, Cavan, Monaghan, Leitrim, East Cork, Tipperary and Waterford in the early hours of Monday morning.
It will come into effect at 6pm on Monday night and last until 4am on Tuesday morning.
Met Éireann forecasters warned that during the evening and overnight, there will be falls of snow that result in accumulations of 0 to 3 cm – which will lead to hazardous conditions on roads and footpaths.
It’s the second weather warning to be issued by the weather forecasters in the last 24 hours, after a low temperature warning was in place overnight.
Monday morning will be mainly dry, cold and frosty with icy patches – but any frost, mist or fog will gradually clear.
Some rain will develop in the west, before spreading eastwards throughout the evening and early nighttime.
Sleet and snow will mainly affect the eastern half of the country on Monday night, while wintry showers will develop in the west.
Frost and ice will form, which will lead to hazardous conditions on roads and footpaths, with temperatures between -2C and +1C.
Meanwhile, Tuesday will be cold and bright – with sunny spells and scattered showers of rain, sleet and snow.
The temperatures will hit highs of 5C in some areas of the country, with fresh, gusty, northwest winds.
It will turn cold and frosty on Tuesday night, with some showers of sleet or snow. There will be a widespread sharp or severe frost, with icy patches following.
The lowest temperatures will hit is -4C to +1C.
