Several hospitalised after warnings of ‘bad batch’ of ecstasy at Cork’s Indiependence festival

A teenager is in critical condition after becoming ill at the Indiependence music festival in Cork.

The 19-year-old was treated by a doctor onsite before being taken by ambulance to Cork University Hospital last night, according to the Irish Independent. It is understood that the man is not from Cork but had been visiting for the festival. Meanwhile, a number of others have also been hospitalised after taking ecstasy at the event, the CUH has confirmed. In a statement on Twitter the hospital said it had treated patients suffering with "severe illness". It urged festival goers to spread the message and to "stay safe".

This followed warnings from Indiependence organisers that a "bad batch of something" was going around at the festival on Friday night. In a post on social media, they discouraged revellers from taking anything they were unsure of.

"Welfare Message - We have reports of a bad batch of something in the campsite, do not consume any substances that you are unsure about, it has the potential to make you very sick," the warning read. "Please be careful and look after each other."
