The union have warned that their strike action in December is not cancelled, only suspended.
Earlier this week, Ryanair changed their long-standing policy of not recognising unions in order to avoid any threat of disruption to its customers and its flights during Christmas week ahead of proposed industrial action from a number of unions on Wednesday 20 December.
In engaging with the unions, Ryanair is breaking a 25-year-old policy of pilots dealing directly with Ryanair, although Ryanair was insistent that a Committees of Ryanair pilots should be established to deal with Ryanair issues, as Ryanair will not engage with pilots who fly for competitor airlines in Ireland or elsewhere.
However, IMPACT, the union involved, have warned that the strike action for December 20 is not cancelled outright, merely suspended, and may arrive on another day following the outcome of today's meeting, and they will be making no further comment on the matter until after the meeting with management.
Following the announcement of the suspension of the strike action, Ryanair’s chief operations officer Peter Bellew took to Twitter to confirm strikes by pilots in Dublin and Portugal were now cancelled.
