The presenter was at the centre of a scandal when it was revealed that his public earnings were inaccurate, with a total discrepancy of €345,000.
The radio host opened up about the scandal that led to his departure from his job at RTÉ on Dermot Whelan’s Mind Full podcast.
Tubridy explained that his mother Catherine was in hospital at around the same time as the scandal.
"[His siblings] were the pillars, my partner was a pillar, the girls were a pillar and if there was a temple of doom, they were the pillars that kept the roof on and we got through it.
"My mum was unwell at the time, so that was pretty tricky. She was in a hospital and I was going in and out of hospital during the Oireachtas hearings," he revealed.
He said his mother asked him to get the newspaper for her when she was in the hospital, but when he went to look at the papers, his face looked back at him.
Tubridy said that was a tricky moment for him.
He told Whelan, "I went down and I looked at the papers…and I went sh**… and I went back up and said, “Funny, they are all sold out”. That was tricky."
Tubridy said he felt sorry for himself "for a long time" following the scandal but praised his loved ones, including partner Clare for helping him get through the ordeal.
He went public with his relationship with the former Rose of Tralee contestant in 2023.
The couple reportedly met when Clare appeared on the former RTÉ star's radio show.
