Report into Gardaí breath tests finds discrepancy of 1.4 MILLION

Quite unbelievable

This is quite unbelievable.

Two new reports on alcohol breath tests were published yesterday and in them, there were some stark findings.

The reports surrounding Mandatory Alcohol Testing found that there was a discrepancy of over 1.4 million between the number of tests recorded, and those that were actually carried out.

This represents a 71 percent disparity between the number of tests on the Garda PULSE system and those registered by the fleet’s Dräger breathalyser devices.

According to thejournal.ie, it is believed that around 933,000 false breath tests had been recorded during a seven year period, and RTÉ further states that another 500,000 false tests have now been revealed.

Apparently, there was a “combination of issues,” which included recording issues, suspected breath test inflation and estimations of numerical data.

Garda Commissioner, Noirin O’Sullivan, said the reports “identify failures” in nearly every part of the force.

“These failures are completely unacceptable and all of us in An Garda Síochána must now take responsibility for ensuring this cannot happen again,” she said.

This figure accounts for the period between 2009-2016.
