There’s no denying it ladies, Fifty Shades of Grey fever has swept across the nation and if you haven’t caught it yet, we’re sorry, but it’s just a matter of time. Trust us.
Yes, it’s tacky and the writing isn’t great. Although, that being said, it’s still oddly captivating – who doesn’t love a mysterious millionaire in fairness?
If, however, your literary tastes are a bit more ‘highbrow’ yet you still want to dip your toes into the auld erotic novel, you’ll be pleased to hear the following news.
The Irish Sun reports that an online publishing house has decided to rewrite all our favourite classics in a Fifty Shades of Grey format. Yes, seriously.
Total E-bound will start publishing a new range of novels entitled: “Clandestine Classics.” Why? Well they believe that sexing up the classic novels will open them up to a wider demographic and make people fall back in love with the historic books.
If you’ve ever wondered what happened between Jane Eyre and Mr Rochester after dark or if you always maintained that the sexual tension between Elizabeth Bennet and Mr D’Arcy was unreal, then these naughty novels might be exactly what you’re looking for.
“Some people will love this and some will hate it. We’re hoping we’ll change their minds or blow their minds,” said Claire Siemaszkiewicz, the founder of Clandestine Classics.
So what titles can you expect to see getting a raunchy makeover? Some are incredibly obvious: Jane Eyre, Pride and Prejudice and Northanger Abbey are all titles which will be published with a kinky twist.
Even Sherlock Holmes is being given an erotic twist. Eh, let’s just say that Holmes and Watson become very close. Ahem.
Anyway what do you think? Would you be more inclined to read a classic if it was sexed up a bit?
