Social welfare dates are set to change in March

The Irish public has been warned that social welfare payment dates are set to change in March.

Payment dates will be altered due to the upcoming St. Patrick’s Day weekend.

Another bank holiday weekend is just around the corner, but it will cause some disruptions.

Post offices and banks will be closed on Monday, March 17th because of the bank holiday.

This means social welfare payments will be made earlier due to the closures.

Those expecting social welfare payments on March 17th will instead be paid on March 14th or 15th.

Parents have been told that Child Benefit payments will be paid as usual.

The update comes after new parents received the first newborn baby grant payment.

It is believed over 4,000 new parents received the payment.

In Budget 2025, the Government confirmed a bonus payment would be given to new parents.

They confirmed that parents who welcome babies from December 1st, 2024 would be awarded the Newborn Baby Grant.

The aim of the grant is to help parents with covering baby expenses following their child’s birth.

Anyone who welcomes a child from December 1st will receive the payment but the amount differs depending on how many children you welcome.

The grant of €280 will be paid to new parents born or adopted on or after December 1st, 2024.
