“A joy and a delight.”

Project Runway finalist Chris March has passed away, aged 56.

The designer, who was best known on the show for his avant-garde costume work, suffered a heart attack this week.

According to TMZ, he died in his home in Stockton, California, at approximately 1:45pm on Thursday.

He had been experiencing severe health issues for some time.

March finished fourth place in the fourth season of Bravo’s Project Runway in 2008.

During his time on the series, he was praised for his outlandish costume designs and his attention to intricate detail.  His standout pieces involved human hair, which gained him much notoriety during the show.

March was eliminated from the competition following his showcase at New York Fashion Week at Bryant Park.

He went on to design costumes for Madonna, Beyoncé, Prince, Lady Gaga, Meryl Streep, and others.

In 2017, March suffered a fall in his apartment that left him partially paralysed.

He said at the time that his rising medical costs were leaving him “anxious and depressed every day.”

“I try my best to effect positive change in this facility for myself and all the residents here,” he said. “I try to add humour, glamour, and a little glitter to my world.”

Andy Cohen confirmed March’s passing on Instagram last night. Sharing a photo of the pair dressed up for a Bravo Halloween special, he wrote: “This is how I’m going to remember Chris March.

“Dressed as Lisa Vanderpump as I wear a Giggy costume he made for one of our first Halloween specials.

“Chris was a finalist on Season 4 of Project Runway. He designed for everyone from Beyoncé, Gaga, Madonna, Meryl, Prince and many legendary downtown drag queens (And Sonja Morgan!).

“He had a big booming laugh; he was a joy and delight. RIP.”

Bravo also issued a statement following March’s passing, saying that they were “deeply saddened” by the news.

“He was a favourite among Bravo fans and the fashion community,” they said.

“Our condolences go out to his family and friends. He will truly be missed.”
