Incredibly sad news this afternoon.
A pregnant NHS nurse who tested positive for Covid-19 has passed away.
The 28-year-old healthcare worker died on Sunday, April 12, after contracting the virus. She was heavily pregnant at the time.
Channel 4 News reports that an emergency C-section was carried out to save the baby.
It is understood that the baby girl is alive and being cared for. It is not yet known whether she has also contracted Covid-19.
The woman’s colleagues have since paid tribute, saying she was “a fabulous nurse, and a great example of what we stand for.”
The Trust’s chief executive said she was a “wonderful young woman who made a huge contribution.” He added that the survival of her baby daughter is a “beacon of light at this very dark time.”
An emergency C-section was performed on the woman when her condition deteriorated after testing positive for Covid-19.
She had initialled shown signs of improvement before becoming unwell again and sadly passing away on Sunday.
