It’s a day to stay wrapped up inside as heavy rain and strong winds are forecast to continue throughout the day. Met Éireann has kept the country on an orange weather alert as a result of yet more heavy showers.

The national forecaster is predicting extremely heavy rainfall throughout the day and has also warned of “spot flooding” in a number of areas.

They predict that there will be “heavy rain in many areas this morning with locally poor visibility and spot flooding. Strong winds in places also. A clearance will follow from the west during the day. Heavy rain will return this evening to parts of Munster and Connacht.”

This will be followed by “further spells of heavy rain tonight in all areas.”

Motorists are asked to take extra care on the roads today and tonight.
