Winton had been living in his north London apartment since earlier this month.
One of the presenter's neighbours from his previous home, Iain Grant, told the Mirror that he could tell that Winton's health was suffering.
"He moved earlier this month and when I saw him go I realised that his health wasn't quite right, he did not look that great," he said.
Winton's friends have also been expressing their upset at the presenter's passing.
Big Brother presenter Davina McCall said: “I am so, so, so sad to hear about Dale Winton - a lovely, warm, kind, sensitive, generous soul with a touch of naughty. RIP.”
“I’m so very shocked and sad... He was a joy to be with at all times,” said Carol Vorderman.
