Police have launched an investigation after more than €26,000 was withdrawn from a number of bank accounts belonging to some of the passengers who were onboard MH370 flight.
A bank in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, noticed a series of mysterious withdrawals back in July, amounting to 111,000 RM and lodged a complaint with the authorities.
Assistant Commissioner Izany Abdul Ghany told The Mirror: “We are investigating the case as unauthorised access with intent to commit an offence”.
He did not rule out the prospect of an inside job and said that the department would be investigating all avenues and has already identified possible suspects in the case.
The Independent reports that the money was taken from the accounts of three passengers and transferred into a fourth, which was subsequently emptied out.
The news comes five months after the Malaysian Airlines plane went missing during its flight from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing.
