As part of their investigation into the 2007 disappearance of Madeleine McCann, British police began searching an area of scrubland in Praia de Luz on Monday.
Scotland Yard have not yet commented on the search but local sources said the week-long search of the scrubland did not uncover anything untoward.
It is thought the the search will resume on Wednesday, focusing on two areas by a small water treatment sub-station, a derelict farmhouse and an abandoned well, according to the Daily Mail.
Madeleine was three when she disappeared from a holiday apartment at the Ocean Club complex in Praia da Luz, Portugal while her parents dined at a nearby tapas restaurant.
“We are kept updated on the ongoing work in Portugal and are encouraged by the progress. Thank you for continuing to stand by us and supporting our efforts to get Madeleine home” read a statement released by Madeleine’s parents Gerry and Kate McCann on Thursday via their Official Find Madeleine Campaign Facebook page.
It is also thought that several suspects are to be questioned in the “very near future” by officers investigating the disappearance of Madeleine McCann, Portuguese police have told BBC News.
