Turbo may be a two-legged chihuahua but that doesn’t stop him from getting around, thanks to staff at a veterinarian who built a make-shift wheelchair using toys.
The disabled puppy was brought to Downtown Veterinarian in Indianapolis, Indiana by a couple whose Chihuahua had given birth to a litter of pups, but Turbo was the only one with this particular genetic defect.
The makeshift wheelchair uses parts of a deconstructed toy helicopter and a toy welding kit.
A spokesperson for the animal practice told Mashable that on-site vet Dr.Kim Cline examined Turbo for other complications, but found the puppy is in good health.
After working with him to strengthen his back legs, the team made a small cart for the puppy to get him used to the feeling of the wheelchair he will be fitted with at six months old.
Practice manager Amy Birk said:
“We just wanted him to be able to get used to the feeling of a cart.
“It allows him to get up and use his legs a few minutes a day in addition to his physical therapy. Using toys just seemed logical because he is so small and it had to be very light.”
Turbo’s toy cart may be a temporary fixture, but he seems happy trotting around in his new wheels.
