Prepare to be angry. Or possibly highly offended.
For those of you who read our site regularly, we’re sure you’ve heard of the marketing stunts from the Charleville Lodge Hotel, Dublin.
The hotel first courted controversy when they posted a rather irate message around room rates for the Ed Sheeran concert.
Now it seems the same man is clearly not too concerned with the publicity he does engage, after his recent job post for an Irish only receptionist.
In a post to the hotel’s Facebook page, he complains that visitors ‘don’t want to hear foreign accents checking in’ and that a ‘Full Irish’ is only ‘Part Irish’ if served by a Lithuanian:
‘Charleville Lodge is delighted to announce a vacancy for an Irish receptionist in our 30 bedroom, 3 star hotel. The candidate must demonstrate a high level of Cead Mile Failte and be able to have the craic with our guests. Given these requirements, the candidate needs to be Irish. Although red hair and freckles are desirable, they are not essential. However, I wouldn’t have any objection if the person was easy on the eye.
When overseas visitors come to our country, they don’t want to hear foreign accents checking them in or serving them breakfast. They want to hear local accents. They want people with local knowledge. They want Irish wit and humour. A ‘Full Irish’ is only a ‘Part Irish’ if it is served by a Lithuanian national.
Before the Immigration Council of Ireland tell me that my stance is ‘illegal’. I honestly couldn’t give less of a s**t what you think. You are welcome to sue me, but rest assured I will be wearing a green tie in court and I will have a bottle of Jameson in the right pocket of my tweed Jacket on the day (Slainte).
If you are Irish and interested in this position, please send your CV to [email protected] without delay. Please ensure the CV is written as gaeilge, including the Modh Coinniollach wherever possible.
Go raibh mile maith agaibh,
Pól Mac Stibhin
P.S. For those of you who believe that our stance is discriminatory, you are dead right. For the past 15 years, 90% of our staff have been non-nationals. It is time we put an end to this kind of discrimination. Enough is enough.’
The post has received a mixed response online from followers of the Facebook page.
Hat-tip: Thanks to Jason Kidd for sending this our way
